Nepal recorded their first ODI win over Papua New Guinea when they won the first game of the two-game series by two wickets. Spinner Sandeep Lamichhane took four wickets and Rohit Poudel produced a fine performance with the bat. Nepal’s middle order faltered in chasing the 135-run goal. Kushal Bhurtel and Ashif Sheikh shared a 46-run opening partnership, but after the wickets kept falling, Nepal’s old batting problem resurfaced. Poudel scored 41 points to lead Nepal to victory. PNG chose to bat after winning the toss at Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman, but PNG was all out for 134 in 33 overs.
Charles Amini top scorer with his 23 runs. Gaudi Toka scored 22 runs, wicketkeeper Kiplin Doriga got 15 runs and Sese Bau added 14 runs to PNG’s total. Chad Soper went unbeaten on 17 runs. While Pokna added one run, Jason Kila and Damien Rabhu couldn’t even open their accounts.
