TOKYO — The US women’s basketball and volleyball teams have advanced to the semifinals. And Serbia stands in the way of gold medal opportunities for both teams on Friday. The volleyball semifinal kicks off at 1:00 PM Tokyo time (midnight Eastern), with the basketball game 40 minutes later.
On track, the women’s 400m and 1500m races – with Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands continuing her bid for a 1,500-5,000-10,000 triple – and the men’s 5,000 on Friday evening (Friday morning US time) will be on track. The finals of both 4×100 meter relays will also be held. While the American women made it to the finals, the men again missed due to a poor baton pass in the heats.
Sweden will face Canada in the gold medal match for women’s soccer on Friday morning (Thursday evening in the US).
And at 5:30 a.m. Tokyo time, the 50-kilometer runners will start to avoid the worst of the heat.
