The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning on Thursday for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning strikes in 21 districts of Madhya Pradesh.
At least eight districts in the state received heavy rainfall (64.5mm to 115.5mm), while Singrauli in eastern Madhya Pradesh registered very heavy showers (123mm) over the past 24 hours, ending at 8.30am on Thursday, it said. an official. .
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall (64.5mm to 115.5mm) with thunder and lightning could affect the isolated places of Sagar, Chhatarpur, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Panna, Niwari, Rewa, Satna, Anuppur, Umaria, Dindori, Katni and Narsinghpur meet.
The warning, which is valid until Friday morning, also covers Chhindwara, Seoni, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Raisen, Hoshangabad, Betul and Dhar districts, said senior meteorologist PK Saha of IMD’s Bhopal office.
The weather department has also forecast rain or thunderstorms for most places in 10 divisions of the state, including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur.
Madhya Pradesh is witnessing the second wet spell this month. The first spell had destroyed the Gwalior and Chambal divisions in the north of the state, killing 24.
The monsoon trough is now passing through Gwalior and Sidhi, bringing in moisture and causing rain, Mr Saha said, adding that the wet spell is expected to continue for the next two to three days.
