Dehradun:
Strict measures will be taken against doctors in government hospitals in Uttarakhand if they prescribe branded drugs to patients who come to hospitals instead of generic drugs, Health Director General Tripti Bahuguna said today.
She asked all chief physicians to ensure that doctors in hospitals under their jurisdiction only prescribe generic drugs to patients.
Ms. Bahuguna also asked them to take strict action against doctors who do not do this.
Jana Aushadhi Kendras, which sells generic drugs that are much cheaper than brand-name drugs, has opened across the country to give economically weaker sections access to quality treatment.
The government from time to time issues orders to doctors to prescribe generic medicines, but it has been found that they continue to prescribe branded medicines that violate the regulations, the DG Health said in its letter to the chief doctors.
