Targeting the BJP governments in the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP), Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Saturday called the policy the education policy of Nagpur because the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) headquarters is in Nagpur. The RSS is the ideological parent organization of the BJP.
He said Congress is against the policy until it has been discussed with stakeholders and in the state legislature.
“FAKE should have been widely discussed. I am preferably a pedagogue, I run educational institutions. I am administrator or chairman of several organizations, but I cannot understand this education policy. I have tried to study it two to three times. talked to students and teachers about it, but couldn’t understand the inside secret,” he said.
Speaking to reporters, he accused the state government of rushing to implement the policy without having discussions.
“Education is the subject of the state, it is the subject of the state, it should be discussed in the state legislature. It has caused concern among parents and confusion among teachers. “This is not the new education policy, this is an education policy of Nagpur,” he said.
Mr. Shivakumar said, “…it is not possible for us to allow it (FAKE), until it is thoroughly discussed.”
On Friday, opposition leader in Karnataka Siddaramaiah on Friday urged the state government to revoke its decision to implement the NEP.
He said the aim of the policy is to indoctrinate students into communalism. In addition, he added, the policy violates states’ autonomy in education.
