As part of the ongoing SAGAR mission, INS Airavat arrived at the port of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam with Covid relief equipment on Aug. 30, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.
The vessel will carry 100 tons of liquid medical oxygen in 05 ISO containers and 300 oxygen concentrators with a capacity of 10 LPM, each based on the requirements projected by the Vietnamese government in its fight against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

INS Airavat, a domestically built Landing Ship Tank (Large) under the Eastern Naval Command based in Visakhapatnam, is being deployed in Southeast Asia for the transshipment of Covid relief aid.
According to a Defense Ministry release, the vessel had previously entered Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 24, 2021 and had disembarked with 10 liquid medical oxygen containers at the request of the Indonesian government.
As part of the Indian Government’s vision for SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), the Indian Navy has proactively worked with countries in the region and has been at the forefront of numerous humanitarian missions across the board. of the Indian Ocean including South/Southeast Asia and East Africa.
India and Vietnam have a strong traditional bond of friendship and are working together towards a safer maritime domain. The two navies cooperate in several areas, including a composite training program in submarine, aeronautics and technical training, and regularly conduct joint naval exercises in the form of bilateral exercises.
The current deployment of the ship aims to further strengthen the strategic relationship. The ship will leave Ho Chi Minh City after the medical supplies disembark, and as part of the ongoing mission, SAGAR will continue to deliver medical supplies to other friendly countries in the region.
