Raj Kundra, the husband of actor Shilpa Shetty, is currently in prison on another case
Bombay:
The Bombay Supreme Court today granted preliminary protection from arrest to businessman Raj Kundra in connection with a pornography racket case registered by city police in 2020.
A single court of Justice SK Shinde ordered the police to respond to the request for pre-arrest bail filed by Raj Kundra on August 25.
“Temporary protection has been granted until then,” Judge Shinde said.
Raj Kundra, the husband of actor Shilpa Shetty, is currently in jail after being arrested in July in another case involving the production and distribution of pornographic clips on some mobile apps.
He filed the anticipatory bail request with the Supreme Court last week in connection with the 2020 case, after a court rejected his bail request prior to the arrest.
In his plea, Raj Kundra claimed that another accused in the case had been granted bail and therefore he should also be paid on bail.
Speaking to the Supreme Court plea on Wednesday, Additional Prosecutor Prajakta Shinde argued that Raj Kundra’s role in the case was different from that of the other accused in the case.
She sought the time to follow more instructions about the application.
Judge Shinde gave her time and asked for a preliminary injunction to protect Raj Kundra from arrest until the next hearing date – August 25.
The FIR against Raj Kundra was registered in October 2020 by the cybercrime cell of the Mumbai Police for allegedly broadcasting nude erotic content on an OTT platform.
Raj Kundra argued in his plea that he was falsely involved in the case.
He claimed that there was not a shred of evidence in the prosecution’s office to link the ‘Hotshot’ app to the alleged offenses, as none of the actresses charged in the case had made any complaints.
