Bishnupur (West Bengal):
Former minister of West Bengal, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, was arrested Sunday for misappropriating government funds during his tenure as chairman in Bishnupur Municipality.
“Shyama Prasad Mukherjee has been arrested for alleged misappropriation of funds during his tenure as chairman in Bishnupur Municipality,” said Bankura police officer Dhritiman Sarkar.
The BJP leader was brought before the Bishnupur court today and sent to four days in custody.
Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, former chairman of Bishnupur Municipality, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly polls.
The arrest of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee came after Bankura Police received a complaint from Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Bishnupur against the BJP leader for alleged financial embezzlement during his tenure as chairman in Bishnupur Municipality.
Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was also the Minister of Textiles in the state government headed by the Trinamool Congress. However, just before the municipal elections, he switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
