After allocating a space for offering namaz on the grounds of the Jharkhand assembly, Samajwadi party MLA Irfan Solanki on Tuesday demanded a similar prayer space for Muslims in the Uttar Pradesh assembly building and urged the chairman to open it. consider.
“I have been an MLA for the past 15 years. Often we Muslim MLAs have to leave the assembly to offer namaz when assembly proceedings are underway.
“If there is a small prayer room in the Assembly, we don’t have to leave the procedure. If you have a question in the pipeline and it is the time for ‘azaan’ (call to prayer), you can often ask or offer namaz” , said Mr Solanki, who is a member of the Legislative Assembly from Sisamau seat in Kanpur.
“Even at international airports there is room for it”ibadat“(prayer). The Assembly Speaker may consider this and it will not harm anyone,” Mr. Solanki said.
However, the MLA told PTI that it has not submitted a written request to the chairman in this regard.
Mr. Solanki’s question came amid a controversy over the allocation of an offering space namaz at the Jharkhand Assembly building by the speaker while the BJP protested the move.
The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Congress have welcomed it.
A notice dated September 2 and signed by Jharkhand Legislative Assembly Deputy Secretary Naveen Kumar on behalf of the speaker said, “Assignment of room number TW 348 as Namaz Hall for offering Namaz in the new Congress building.”
Ruckus by the opposition BJP on the matter disrupted proceedings for the second day in the Jharkhand meeting.
The party is demanding that the order be revoked or that a Hanuman temple and places of worship of other religions be allowed on the convention site.
The government must reverse the “unconstitutional and undemocratic decision” on the namaz room, the saffron party has said.
