Agartala:
Ahead of the 75th Independence Day, four Bangladeshis were arrested Friday from Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) airport. The foreigners tried to fly to Chennai with fake ID cards, police said.
Based on a tip from state intelligence sources, the police arrested them from the airport, who identified themselves as Indian citizens and provided Indian Aadhar cards, which were found to be forged.
They were identified as Dulal Sheikh, Yusuf Sheikh, Aminul Sheikh and Rejabul Sheikh.
After the arrests, they were taken to the airport police station for questioning.
Sukanta Sen Chowdhury, chief of the airport police station, said the police had received information that four Bangladeshi nationals were leaving for Chennai from MBB airport.
“They all had valid tickets, but when they went through security, it was found that their Aadhaar cards had been forged. Soon a team of police from our police station rushed to the spot and later their real identities were revealed,” said Mr Chowdhury . .
He also said the accused admitted during the preliminary interrogation that they had illegally infiltrated Indian territory.
Police said security was heightened ahead of the Independence Day celebrations and BSF was warned to hold a strong vigil along the 856km border in Tripura.
