Linda takes over as CEO of Twitter while Musk looks at the tech part
The new Twitter chief promises to change the social media platform and provide accurate real-time information.
Twitter’s new CEO Linda Yaccarino has sent her first email to employees titled “Building Twitter 2.0 Together,” highlighting her boss Elon Musk’s intent that the company should become the “global city square” and said it “needs transformation”.
“From space exploration to electric vehicles, Elon knew these industries needed transformation, so he did it,” Yaccarino wrote in the memo Monday, according to The Verge.
“More recently, it has become increasingly clear that the global city square needs to be transformed – to advance civilization through the unfiltered exchange of information and open dialogue about the things that matter most to us.”
She also said the microblogging platform has “a mission to become the world’s most accurate real-time source of information and a global communications town square.”
Twitter’s new CEO is NBCUniversal’s former chairman of Global Advertising and Partnerships.
According to Musk, she will be in charge of everything else while he continues to manage Twitter’s engineering and product teams.
Her main job is to rebuild the platform’s advertising business, which has collapsed since Musk took over, the report said.
Yaccarino took over as Twitter’s new CEO last week, leaving Musk to focus on Tesla and SpaceX as sales of Twitter ads in the US plummeted 59 percent in April and the month of May wasn’t looking rosy either.
