Several users are having trouble accessing Twitter, as the microblogging platform doesn’t seem to be available to them.
Several users are having trouble accessing Twitter, as the microblogging platform doesn’t seem to be available to them.
According to the outage monitoring website Downdetector.com, users started reporting problems around 5 p.m. Subsequently, the number of complaints started to increase and at the moment, even after 10 pm, users are still experiencing problems when using the Elon Musk platform.
Considering that the outage started affecting users at about 5pm and is still affecting them, this is one of the longest periods of downtime the microblogging platform has experienced – currently around 4 hours at the time of writing. Twitter has not yet acknowledged the outage and has not commented on the issue.
Twitter users are complaining of various issues ranging from not being able to retrieve tweets to receiving the “speed limit exceeded” error.
The hashtag #TwitterDown is also trending on Twitter, and apparently not everyone has problems with the platform. We can access the website and the iOS app without any problems.
Update: Elon Musk tweeted that Twitter has applied “temporary limits” to deal with “extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation.” It is possible that the “speed limit exceeded” issues are caused by this temporary restriction. Authenticated users are limited to reading 6,000 messages per day, unauthenticated accounts are limited to 600 messages per day, and new unauthenticated accounts can only read 300 messages per day.
