Elon Musk, who was unable to pay the rent for Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters, has now asked his remaining staff in Singapore to stop coming to the office and work remotely as the company reportedly failed to pay the monthly rent .
According to reports, Twitter employees were informed via email of the decision to leave the CapitaGreen building here and work from home.
Singapore serves as Twitter’s headquarters in the Asia-Pacific region.
Platformer’s Casey Newton said in a tweet Thursday that “Twitter employees have just walked out of the Singapore office – its Asia Pacific headquarters – for non-payment of rent”.
“Landlords have moved workers out of the building,” he wrote.
In the US, Twitter has been sued for failing to pay $136,250 in rent for its San Francisco office space.
According to a complaint filed by landlord Columbia Reit, Twitter is late on rent at 650 California Street on the outskirts of Chinatown, USA Today reported.
The lawsuit was filed in state court in San Francisco on Dec. 29.
The company’s headquarters are located at 1355 Market St, where Twitter is also reportedly in arrears on rent.
Musk has also converted rooms at Twitter’s headquarters into small bedrooms, with unmade mattresses, drab curtains and giant work monitors.
The beds were prepared for the remaining “hardcore” staffers to spend the night in the office.
Sources told Forbes there may have been “four to eight such rooms per floor” at Twitter’s headquarters.
Twitter was also sued in December 2022 for refusing to pay for two charter flights, the reports said.
