Sony’s flip phone could be a game changer in many ways
Sony’s entry into the foldable segment is eagerly awaited and an Xperia Flip phone could be an exciting addition to the market.
Sony could be the next smartphone brand to hit the market with its very first Xperia flip smartphone. The new Xperia phone is certainly getting a lot of attention, but even then the company will limit availability as it has left quite a few markets for business reasons in recent years.
Coming back to the rumored Xperia flip phone, it is believed that the device will be called the Xperia Flip and it is likely to borrow its design cues from the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 or the Moto Razr 40 Ultra.
But the similarities could end there, as Sony is expected to offer a 7-inch internal display with support for 4K resolution, which is hard to imagine on this form factor, especially with the battery limitations. Sony’s screen could get a 21:9 aspect ratio, making it wider than Samsung’s with its flip-up device.
However, these features are unlikely to make the Xperia Flip stand out from the pinball crowd. Reports claim that Sony could take advantage of its gaming prowess and pack some features aimed at gamers.
Either way, we can’t wait to see what Sony has in store, and will the Xperia flip phone manage to carve a niche for itself in the premium segment. Sony and Apple are the big brands still popping up with foldable devices, but that could change in the near future. Google has the Pixel Fold, but it still doesn’t have a flip model which was probably canceled for technical reasons.
