Opera is ready to enter the AI chatbot arena by using the popular ChatGPT in its products. The integration will happen later this year, and the company hasn’t exactly talked about the details of its plans for the AI chatbot just yet.
It’s hardly a surprise that Opera wants to take advantage of ChatGPT’s capability. That’s because of the trust Microsoft has given Open AI by recently investing billions and integrating ChatGPT into the Bing and Microsoft Edge browsers. Opera’s parent company Kunlun Tech confirmed this plan, saying all of its products will integrate with ChatGPT, which likely includes Opera.
Opera has several web browsers on the market and like Microsoft Edge, we expect ChatGPT to make its mark on the Opera browser and probably some of the other products the company offers.
To be fair, Opera is not among the top choice of web browsers these days, with a miniscule share among peers. Google leads the segment with Chrome, but when you talk about Opera, the browser lags behind even Mozilla Firefox and Samsung’s Internet browser.
We’ve already seen what the integration of ChatGPT could mean for a product like Bing that’s been around for years but couldn’t compete with Google in the search arena. Now, with ChatGPT under its wing, Bing has run into a waiting list of people eager to try out the search engine’s new experience.
Opera also has other non-browser products, but we’re not sure how ChatGPT could improve its profile, performance, and image in any way. Apple is still the stark absentee from all the recent AI talk. The company has reportedly held a secret meeting with its employees to gauge its readiness in the AI segment, but we’ll likely have to wait until WWDC 2023 later this year to learn more about the company’s plans.
