Netflix gives you more reasons to buy the most expensive subscription
Netflix is making drastic changes to its policies in its mission to onboard more users and make them pay for using its services.
Netflix has been losing users for quite some time, but it seems the company is realizing that its revenue can only increase if people pay for its service. And after deciding to end the whole free password sharing cheat code, Netflix is now giving its subscribers more reasons to go for the premium tier plan.
The video streaming giant has made a slew of additions to its Rs 649 per month Netflix plan, which now offers content with spatial audio support that can enhance the overall audio experience of your favorite Netflix shows in your living room.
Spatial audio is basically viewing content with a 3D audio effect that provides a 360-degree audio experience. Netflix claims the spatial audio enhancement works natively and you don’t need a soundbar or home theater system to tell the difference. Netflix has spatial audio support for over 700 titles. You can check if your favorite movie or show is supported by looking for icons like 5.1 or Atmos next to it. Read more about it here.
Apart from that, you can also run the same Netflix account on six devices and watch the downloaded content on all of them. Previously, the premium Netflix allowed you to access and download content on up to four devices. You get the streaming quality in 4K or UHD resolution, but only if the content is available in that quality.
So why is Netflix making these changes to the premium plan? The company says research has shown that users want the ability to download content and view it offline while traveling. While the upgrade from four to six devices is understandable, Netflix could have offered the option for all of its plans, not just the premium tier.
After all, in markets like India, Netflix has more subscribers who pay for the mid-range plan which costs Rs 499 per month and allows you to stream content on two devices and also download it. Netflix is also reducing the ability for people to share their accounts outside of their home network, and changes like this could end up costing the company even more.
