Chipmaker Qualcomm will release its Apple Silicon competitor chip next year. At the 2023 Mobile World Congress (MWC), Qualcomm CEO and President Cristiano Amon revealed that Apple will produce its own 5G modems in the iPhone 16, AppleInsider reports, citing sources.
“Our SoC and custom CPUs, you should see it as an Apple competing for the Microsoft ecosystem,” said Amon.
When asked when the new chip would come, Amon said, “We’ll probably see some devices announced in 2023.”
“You’ll probably see some announcements at CES in 2024,” he added.
In November 2021, the chipmaker had talked about becoming a competitor to Apple’s then-current M1 processor series.
However, the iPhone maker has since released the M2 range, and according to multiple rumors, it will have an M3 in a Mac by the end of this year, the report said.
Last month it was reported that Qualcomm was developing a new chipset that will compete with Apple’s M-series processors.
