Helio G36 chip should be part of the sub 10K phones
The new Helio chipset offers a high refresh rate screen, faster performance and better power management.
Most of you would agree that 5G has been the talk of the town since 2022, but MediaTek shows that 4G still has a big place in the market. The chipmaker has developed a new Helio 4G chipset, the Helio G36, which is claimed to bring gaming-focused features and performance to budget devices.
“The new processor is designed to take the entry-level gaming smartphones to the next level with the benefits of a larger camera, sustained performance, faster screens and global dual 4G connectivity with intelligent connectivity technologies,” the company said. The new chipset is built using the 12nm chip process and MediaTek uses TSMC’s manufacturing expertise to create the chipset.
MediaTek is improving the capabilities of these phones by making them support cameras up to 50 megapixels that can provide greater depth of field. The phone is also capable of a 90Hz refresh rate display and offers HD+ resolution. For connectivity, the chipset brings Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5 standard, which promises reliable pairing with headphones and gamepads.
But where the new Helio chipset earns its points is in performance. It is equipped with the company’s HyperEngine 2.0 which not only delivers sustained performance from the built-in cores, but also manages the CPU and GPU workload for longer gameplay.
The Helio G-series chips have made quite an impression over the years, and while it’s built with older tech, we’d expect phones to get incremental performance upgrades aimed at casual mobile gamers. MediaTek is likely to partner with brands like Redmi, Realme, Techno and more for phones with this new chipset in 2023.
