WhatsApp is reportedly working on message responses, and a new screenshot shows how it might work when it launches. Message reactions or emoji reactions as they are also known allow users to respond to a specific text in a conversation with an emoji. The screenshot suggests that users can use any emoji for comments. The instant messaging app is also reportedly working on the new chat bubble redesign for iOS users, a UI change already introduced for Android beta users. In addition, it aims to extend the new archive interface for multi-device users.
Starting with comments, WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo has shared a screenshot of what these comments might look like when rolled out. Replies appear in a small dialog below the chat bubble and are not anonymous so everyone in the conversation can see who has responded to a specific message. The screenshot shows that it is possible to respond with any emoji a user wants. This emoji response screenshot is from WhatsApp for iOS, but the tracker says it’s in development for Android users as well. This feature is still under development, therefore, even with the latest beta versions, users will not be able to recognize it yet.
WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a new chat calling design for iOS users, the feature tracker says. It was implemented for Android beta users with WhatsApp beta for Android 126.96.36.199 and now it is reported to be in development for iOS users. However, it is not yet enabled for iOS beta testers. The new redesign brings a more rounded chat bubble and a new green color.
Finally, WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is also working on making the new archive feature available to desktop users across multiple devices. The new archive does not automatically unarchive users’ archived chats when new messages arrive. It is currently only available for WhatsApp Web and Desktop users, but WhatsApp has also enabled it for desktop users who use multiple devices. This is currently being rolled out with WhatsApp Desktop beta 2.2135.1 version and it may be rolled out commercially after a while of testing.
