Acer has announced that it will soon be entering the smart TV space in India under a licensing deal with Bengaluru-based Indkal Technologies. Acer, which is known for its computer hardware and accessories, has not shared the exact details of the deal. The company hasn’t revealed much about its upcoming smart TV series either, other than that the panel sizes of the TV models will range from 32-inches to 70-inches. The TVs will be sold through e-commerce websites in India, but their offline availability has not yet been confirmed.
Acer has been in the computer hardware business for over 45 years and during that time has created a variety of products including desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets, monitors, game accessories and more. Now looking to enter the smart TV space in the Indian market, the Taiwanese multinational has licensed Bengaluru-based Indkal Technologies to launch its smart TV offering. These TV models will range from 32-inch to 70-inch and will hit the market sometime in September via Amazon and Flipkart. That’s all the information Acer has revealed about the upcoming TVs.
Indkal Technologies specializes in the development, distribution and support of consumer electronics and smart devices in India, with a focus on home televisions and displays. The TV models are developed by Indkal and sold under the Acer brand name. The Bengaluru-based company said it will soon share detailed specifications about the TV models.
License agreements in the Smart TV segment are not new. For example, Flipkart has licensed Nokia and Motorola smart TVs in India, although the actual manufacturer is unknown. Similarly, Kodak and Blaupunkt smart TVs are licensed in India by Noida-based Super Plastronics. Ecommerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart also have their own brands. Amazon uses its Amazon Basics brand to make a wide range of devices, including TVs. Flipkart has its MarQ brand for the same purpose.
