Apple views the iPad as a hub for smart devices
Apple is likely to extend the base for iPad and use it to control other smart home devices according to reports.
Apple launched the new M2 Pro Macs and a new HomePod this week, but the company remains focused on future products, including its efforts in the smart home segment. Apple could release a new, low-cost iPad sometime next year that will let you control various smart home gadgets, according to a new report.
This iPad model can reportedly be wall mounted using magnetic mounts and will help you control lights, play videos and even take FaceTime calls, as stated by sources in a Bloomberg report. The new details come after Apple was reportedly working on a HomePod-like device with a smart display.
But by offering a cheap iPad, Apple can compete with Google and Amazon, which already have a host of smart display devices, such as the Nest Hub Max and Echo Show, among others.
It seems that Apple has realized that the demand for such devices has increased in recent years and that it has a wide range of iPads in the market that can be used to offer an attractive version for those who want to improve their smart home ecosystem would like to expand.
Apple will likely take its existing services and offer them through this rumored product. It is rather intriguing not to have a speaker as a base, but it cannot be ruled out that Apple will sell a stand for this product as an accessory at a later date. We’d rather see Apple bring this iPad variant than a HomePod with a display, which will probably cost a lot more than a single device.
Apple could talk more about this new product at WWDC 2023, which should be around June this year as always. We’re also intrigued to see how the company plans to make the iPad variant work, as the use case is limited to controlling other devices, but having a screen means video consumption will be part of that, among other things the consumer package.
