Wagner Group head Yevgeny Prigozhin vowed to “go to the end” to oust the Russian chief amid a crisis.
Moscow:
The head of the Russian mercenary group Wagner on Saturday vowed to take all necessary steps to overthrow the country’s military leadership in Moscow, saying his troops would “destroy everything” in their path.
“We will continue and we will go to the end,” Yevgeny Prigozhin said in a new audio message after vowing to sideline Russia’s military leadership.
He said his troops had entered the southern Russian region of Rostov but failed to provide any evidence and that AFP could not independently verify his claims.
“We will destroy anything that stands in our way,” he added.
Prigozhin, who has been embroiled in a feud with the defense ministry for months, accused Moscow on Friday of carrying out deadly missile attacks on its troops and vowed to retaliate.
He urged the Russians to join forces and punish Moscow’s military leaders in the most daring challenge to President Vladimir Putin since the Ukrainian offensive began last year.
