Neeraj Chopra made history by winning India’s only gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In the many interviews that followed his historic victory, the 23-year-old was faced with a variety of questions, but some crossed the thin line between curious and pushy. Most recently, it was a question from art historian Rajeev Sethi that many on social media denounced as “unprofessional” and “offensive”. Sethi attempted to question the Olympic medalist about his sex life and was heavily criticized on social media for his question.
Footage that has gone viral on Twitter shows Mr Sethi asking Neeraj Chopra how he managed to maintain a balance between his athletic training and sex life. “Kitne sundar naujawan hain monkey (You are a handsome young man),’ began Mr. Sethi, before asking Neeraj Chopra in Hindi how he managed to balance training and sex life. He added that he knew it was a “behuda(silly) question but assured the athlete that he also had a serious question behind it.
Neeraj Chopra, who looked visibly uncomfortable, declined to answer the question. “Sorry sir, I said sorry,” he replied.
When pressed again to answer the question, the athlete again refused. This time, the art historian apologized for his question, but was interrupted by Neeraj who said, “Please sir, aapke ask se mera man bhar gaya hai (Please sir, I’m done with your questions).”
If you thought Malishka was Cringe. WATCH Rajeev Sethi, go one step further 😡 He asked Neeraj Chopra, “How do you balance your sex life with your workout?” Disgusted Neeraj replied “Aapke question se mera mann bhar gaya” #NeerajChopra#RajeevSethicpic.twitter.com/qwVd7hAot4

The video has gone viral with over 4 lakh views on Twitter, where it was shared on Friday. Check out some of the reactions it got below:
Parliamentarian Priyanka Chaturvedi praised the athlete for handling all questions with grace
Respect for @Neeraj_chopra1 for the grace with which he handled all the questions put to him, some really silly and inappropriate ones too. A real sportsman.

Economist Sanjeev Sanyal was among those who called it an example of “deep-seated class prejudice.”
Media people need to recognize that @Neeraj_chopra1 is a national icon. They should treat him with respect regardless of his age or background. The repeated instances of casual disrespect are a reflection of a deep-seated class prejudice.

So was IAS Himanshu Kaushik
So-called elites asking irrelevant and uncomfortable questions of national icon @Neeraj_chopra1 should really get a life! Don’t abuse humility for your gain. It’s basically class discrimination.

IAS Priyanka Shukla noted that “everyone” seemed more concerned about “everything but the spear”.
It seems the only person determined to cross the 90m mark on his next throw and take his country to greater heights is #NeerajChopra himself.
Everyone else is concerned and curious about everything but the Javelin!

One listed all the “serious” questions the Olympian is subjected to
Few serious questions have been asked of Neeraj Chopra in interviews recently.
1. Do you have a girlfriend?
2. Will you give me a virtual hug?
3. How do you maintain the balance between sport and your sex life?
Neeraj Chopra politely declined to answer them all.
Yet it goes on.
