Incidents of wild animals straying into human habitats have surfaced several times in the past. Now, in one such incident, a video of a tiger wandering into an open field and attacking a cattle is gaining popularity on social media.
The video, shared on Twitter by Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Susanta Nanda, shows the feral cat chasing a group of cows. The tiger makes circles in an open field and finally catches a calf. However, the calf manages to escape after a cow charges at the wild cat.
“India now has 75% of the world’s wild tigers, about 3200. It will soon reach its carrying capacity, until we obsess over numbers and make them pests in human-dominated habitats,” Nandra wrote in the post’s caption.

Mr Nanda shared the clip on Saturday and it has since gone viral on social media. The video has been viewed more than 137,000 times and has more than 2,200 likes. It has also garnered various responses from internet users.
“Eye feast to see the tiger population, but at the same time, concrete measures must be taken to prevent human-animal conflicts and broad public awareness about wildlife (flora, fauna), especially the importance of apex predators and their role in the ecosystem,” one user wrote.

“The solution lies in building more forests and forcibly controlling our human population, not limiting the population of wild tigers,” said another.
A third user commented, “Saved in the nick of time. But someone left hungry,” while a fourth added, “Incidents happened like a movie script. Interesting! Also an alarming concern regarding habitat overlap.”
The location of the incident is unknown.
India, in particular, is home to more than 3,000 tigers. The feral cat population has increased in the country due to years of tiger conservation efforts.
