New Delhi:
The Supreme Court on Tuesday denounced the national green tribunal for imposing fines without seeking a response from any party involved, saying it amounted to a violation of the principle of natural justice.
A court of Justices BR Gavai and CT Ravikumar heard a plea alleging that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed a heavy fine on a party without hearing it.
“How do these tribunals function, issuing orders based only on commission reports, without notice to the parties? Total violation of the principles of natural justice,” the court noted while taking note of the remarks of senior lawyer Ranjit Kumar, who appeared for an injured party in a case.
The bank said there were several such cases where the cases went to the highest court.
