As the investigation into the grisly murder of Shraddha Walkar continues, Delhi police today launched a search for the head of the victim in a pond in the Mehrauli area of the city.
According to sources, Shraddha’s friend and the alleged murderer, Aftab Poonawala, told the investigative team that he dumped his girlfriend’s dismembered head in a pond.
Following the sensational revelation, a team of officers from the Delhi Police, along with workers from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), started emptying the water from a Mehrauli pond today.
Shraddha and Aftab had moved to Delhi from Mumbai in May this year and were living together in a rented apartment in Chhatarpur.
After an argument over expenses and infidelity, Aftab allegedly strangled Shraddha. He later cut her body into 35 pieces and stored them in a fridge in their apartment before disposing of them in a jungle in Mehrauli for 18 days, police said.
Meanwhile, an investigative team from the Delhi Police has reached Mumbai to follow up on a lead that could be crucial in further assembling the murder investigation.
According to sources, today Delhi Police officers reached Vasai, in Mumbai, and along with Mumbai Police officers, they left for Mira Road to inquire about a package that Aftab had allegedly transported there through a logistics company.
