Guwahati:
The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Guwahati Zoo today and took stock of the work going on there. He also announced that the zoo will be turned into a well-known tourist destination.
Mr. Sarma drove to the zoo all alone. He met with officials and discussed what more facilities could be added as he drove through the area in his car. Among the new features, the zoo is expected to get a botanical garden and launch a night safari.
I drove into the grounds of the Assam State Zoo and inquired about the various works in progress at the zoo.

On a day when the state celebrates the Magh Bihu festival. Mr. Sarma spent time with exotic birds and other animals.
Some parrots even sat on the shoulders of the Assam Chief Minister. He also fed the macaws at the zoo.
“I had a refreshing feeling when I visited the @assamzoo, getting a glimpse of the animals and birds up close. I took stock of the condition of the zoo along the entire stretch and decided that our government will transform it into one of the most attractive tourist destinations of the region,” Mr Sarma wrote on his official Twitter account.

The state zoo is located in Guwahati and is spread over 432 hectares of land. It is home to nearly 113 species of fauna and is considered to be the largest zoo in northeastern India.
