Barabanki, UP:
A 65-year-old woman in the Mohripurva area in UP has been found living with the body of her 17-year-old grandson in her home for the past 10 days, police said Monday.
According to police, the case came to light on Sunday evening when her neighbors complained of odors coming from the woman’s home, Circle officer Binu Singh said.
Upon reaching her home on Sunday night, Mithilesh was seen next to her grandson Priyanshu’s body, which was found partially decomposed, Mr Singh said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem while Mithilesh has been sent for a mental health evaluation, the CO said.
Priyanshu’s cause of death will only become clear after the autopsy, she added.
The woman’s neighbors said they had been capturing the foul smell coming from Mithilesh’s home for the past 3-4 days and complained to police on Sunday after finding the stench unbearable, police said.
According to the locals of the locality of Mohripurva, Priyanshu has been living with his grandmother for the past few years.
Mithilesh’s late husband was a government employee. His pension helped cover her basic expenses.
Mithilesh had two daughters. The eldest daughter and her husband had died of illness six years ago. The youngest daughter lives in Lakhimpur Kheri and has been notified of the incident, police said.
