A 12-year-old girl has been found dead with scars on her neck in a sugar cane field in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, an official said.
The victim was identified as Pushpa alias Rajni, who according to police was mowing a field with her grandmother before being found dead in the sugar cane field.
S Anand, Superintendent of Police, Shahjahanpur, said on Thursday that the victim’s grandmother had recovered her body along with the villagers after a search of the village when the girl did not return to the field after keeping the cut grass at her house.
The police suspected that the girl had been strangled.
“Information was received about the recovery of a body of a 12-year-old girl identified as Pushpa alias Rajni in a sugar cane field. Information was also received that she was mowing the field which was nearly 300 meters away from her home … with her grandmother. She did not return to the field after keeping the cut grass at her house,” Mr. Anand said.
The official said the victim’s hands were tied and her clothing was intact during her body’s recovery period.
“After waiting, her grandmother started her search. Her body was recovered when the search was carried out with the help of the villagers in the field. She has a mark on her neck as if she has been strangled. Her hands were tied from behind” Her clothes were intact. A team of forensic investigators has taken action on the spot,” he said.
The SP said that the victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem and that teams have been put together to investigate the incident.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
