New Delhi:
TMC MP Derek O’Brien slammed the government on Thursday for allegedly censoring opposition protests in the Rajya Sabha during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the House.
Amid slogans from opposition members, Prime Minister Modi spoke for about 90 minutes in response to a debate on a motion thanking the president for her address to a joint session of parliament, and listed several achievements of his government.
“CENSORSHIP IN #Parliament When Prime Minister @narendramodi spoke no opposition MP @AITCofficial @INCIndia @AamAadmiParty @BRSparty @cpimspeak and others were shown exercising their democratic right within Rajya Sabha. SHAME @sansad_tv Worse than any emergency of 5 decades ago,” tweeted O’Brien, the House leader for TMC in the Rajya Sabha.

As the Prime Minister delivered his nearly 90-minute speech on the vote of thanks in the President’s speech, MPs from the opposition parties put forward slogans demanding that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (GPC) investigate the Adani issue.
There were rowdy scenes in the Rajya Sabha as Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar tried to spark general discussions on the Union’s budget for 2023-24.
“An immediate inquiry into the world’s largest scan is needed. We want to get to the bottom of this. You can survive a session of Parliament by avoiding answering important questions… but they (questions) won’t go away ,” said Mr. O’Brien later.
