New Delhi:
The Delhi Municipal Corporation clarified on Saturday that it has awarded the integrated contract for biomining of old waste at the Bhalswa and Ghazipur landfills after the Ghaziabad Mayor seized MCD’s trucks for allegedly dumping waste from the Ghazipur landfill in Ghaziabad in Delhi.
“It is clarified that MCD has been awarded the integrated contract for biomining of legacy waste at the Bhalswa and Ghazipur landfills. Contractors are responsible for bio-mining and disposal of separated fractions as per applicable guidelines. They have made a number of arrangements for the disposal of rejected derivative fuel (RDF) in waste to a power facility in Ghaziabad,” MCD said in an official statement.
The release further stated that MCD does not dump garbage in Ghaziabad and no MCD vehicles have been used. “Reprocessing of RDF is permitted at Waste to Energy plants,” the statement said.
Earlier on Friday, Ghaziabad Mayor Sunita Dayal seized Delhi MCD’s trucks for allegedly dumping rubbish from Delhi’s Ghazipur landfill into the Ghaziabad area.
“I received complaints that in some parts of Ghaziabad trucks from Delhi Municipal Corporation come to dump rubbish. When we arrived on the scene, we caught 6 empty trucks of MCD, which were given to the police,” said the mayor.
The mayor further said, “3 trucks came full, and they were also caught, when we asked the driver, he told that these trucks were taken from Ghazipur to Ghaziabad dump. These trucks come more at night. Officials of Ghaziabad’s Nagar Nigam Heath Department is also involved… This has been going on for months… I will take action against all people involved.”
