A court for Special Protection of Children against Sex Offenses (POCSO) on Thursday sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting an underage girl in Manchal.
Special Court Judge Harisha sentenced the accused, identified as Dusari Raju alias Katam Raju, a resident of Manchal and also fined him Rs 20,000.
The case relates to 2016. Manchal Police received a complaint from a complainant, aged 24, on 5 February stating that Katam Raju had sexually assaulted her 4-year-old daughter.
According to the complaint, registered with the Manchal Police on Feb. 3, Katam Raju, under the pretext of giving money to the child, took her to a nearby house and assaulted her while she was playing.
“On February 4, the defendant again tried to lure the child by offering money, but the girl ran away from him and told the whole incident to her mother,” the indictment added.
Based on the said complaint, a case was registered with Manchal PS, in the course of the investigation, a police sub-inspector at Manchal police station collected evidence, arrested the suspect and sent him back to judicial custody, officials said.
“After the investigation was completed, another police officer, M Gangadhar, filed charges,” the police added.
LB Nagar Special Court POCSO Judge Harisha heard the case today and sentenced the accused Dusari Raju to 20 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000.
