“Stop Acting as an Opposition Leader”: AAP to Navjot Sidhu (FILE)
Chandigarh:
AAP leader Raghav Chadha on Friday asked Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu to deliver on poll promises and stop acting like an “opposition leader”.
“Otherwise it will be clear to the people that your struggle was a struggle for seat and power, not a struggle for the advancement of Punjab,” he said in a clear reference to the infighting in Congress prior to the elevation of Mr Sidhu. to the post of the leader of the state party.
Mr Sidhu has in the recent past criticized his own government for failing to deliver on election promises and has pushed for the implementation of the party’s high command’s 18-point agenda.
Addressing the media, the AAP leader said Mr Sidhu must stop acting like an “opposition leader” and has written to the leader of the Punjab Congress to remind him of the election promises his party has made in a 129-page manifesto before coming to power in 2017.
Mr Chadha said he told Sidhu that he had a responsibility to bring these promises home to every household in Punjab as not a single promise has been fulfilled in the past four and a half years.
“I want to say to Sidhu that you are now the president of the state unit of the Congress party. You have the blessings of the party high command. You have the support of every MLA. You are, for all practical purposes, the government of Punjab said Mr Chadha.
“It will not be incorrect to say in cricket terms that you are the batsman and the bowler, with the pitch all yours. It is your responsibility to keep all the polls’ promises,” said Mr Chadha, a lawmaker in Delhi.
He further stated that Mr. Sidhu had raised several issues such as ending corruption and breaking power purchase agreements.
Mr Chadha said he heard Mr Sidhu promised to give power at Rs 3 per unit if his party comes back to power.
“Whose party is in power now in Punjab? Is it the DMK or the RJD leading the government in Punjab? Sidhu Sahab, there is a Congress government in Punjab today,” he said, asking Mr. Sidhu to fulfill all election promises six months after.
