The earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on February 6
Antakya, Turkey:
An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale killed more than 16,000 people in Turkey and Syria on Monday. Extreme cold has left rescuers struggling as they race against time to save those still trapped under the rubble.
The massive damage caused by the earthquake is clearly visible in the satellite images released by Maxar Technologies.
Hundreds of emergency shelters have been set up in places where high-rise buildings used to be, the images show. .

Survivors have been left to forage for food and shelter – in some cases watching helplessly as their relatives cried for rescue, eventually becoming silent under the rubble.
The earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on February 6. Aid from several countries has reached the region to help the affected areas.
