New Delhi:
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said on Wednesday that the party’s leaders, who are experts on the budget, will first elaborate and then he will speak about it.
“It is not appropriate to talk about the budget without seeing the budget. We will respond as soon as it should be presented. A press conference will be held on behalf of the party. The leaders who are experts in the party will talk about the budget, Mr Kharge told reporters as he left for parliament on Wednesday.
He further lashed out at President Droupadi Murmu’s speech at the joint meeting of both Houses on Tuesday, calling it “nothing special”.
“There was nothing special about the president’s speech,” he said.
Before presenting the Union budget, Ms Sitharaman met the president at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday after a meeting of the Union cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The presentation of the EU budget 2023-24 started with Ms Sitharaman’s speech in parliament, in which she called the budget the “first budget in Amrit Kaal”.
“This is the first budget in Amrit Kaal. We envision a prosperous and inclusive India,” Ms Sitharaman said, adding, “Despite a time of challenges, the Indian economy faces a bright future.”
Ms Sitharaman submitted the 2022-23 economic survey together with the highlights and the statistical annex to the House of Representatives yesterday, the first day of the parliament’s budget session.
On Tuesday, Mr Kharge said they would raise the issues of inflation, unemployment and border disputes with China during the budget session. He also said that the party will raise the issue of government banks lending massive amounts of loans to certain capitalists.
