IAS officer Abhishek Singh, relieved from Gujarat election duty for posting on social media about his new assignment, released a new post on Friday explaining the intentions behind the post. “An official, in a car bought with public money, reports for public duties, with government officials, communicates it to the public. It’s not publicity or a stunt,” the officer said, sharing an earlier tweet where he had shared about his new assignment.
However, the Uttar Pradesh executive clarified that he accepts the election commission with “all humility”.
I accept the decision of the honorable ECI with all humility
Although I believe there is nothing wrong with this post. An official, in a car bought with public money, who reports for public duties, along with government officials, who communicates it to the public. It’s not publicity or a stunt! https://t.co/T89c1K6PMi

Abhishek Singh was appointed as General Observer for two constituencies in Ahmedabad – Bapunagar and Asarwa.
Mr Singh had shared two photos on Instagram and Twitter.
One shows him next to a service car with “Observer” written on the front. Another post showed him with three more officials and an armed security guard, all smiling at the camera.
“Joined as an observer in the Gujarat elections,” the caption read.
The Election Commission, NewsMadura has learned, had taken the officer’s Instagram post “very seriously” and so he is “immediately relieved of his General Observer duties and has been banned from any election-related duties until further notice.”
The officer was ordered to leave the constituency immediately and report to his parent cadre. All government facilities made available to him in Gujarat were also taken away, including the car that was on his posts.
Mr. Singh has been replaced by Krishan Bajpai, another IAS (Indian Administrative Service) official.
Gujarat will vote for a new government on December 1 and 5. The results will be announced on December 8.
