A man in the Alwar district was upset that his wife was not wearing a veil to cover her face and snatched their three-year-old daughter from her and allegedly threw the child to the ground, killing her, police said on Thursday.
Later, the suspect and his relatives secretly cremated the girl, they said.
The woman, Monika Yadav, filed a complaint with her parents at Behror Police Station on Wednesday.
She claimed that her husband, Pradeep Yadav, argued with her on Tuesday for not covering her face with a veil, and during the argument he snatched their daughter from her and threw the child out of the room, resulting in her death.
The accused and his relatives then secretly performed the girl’s last rites, Monica Yadav claimed.
“She said her husband always insisted that she wear a ghunghat (veil). On Tuesday, they also argued over the issue. Then he beat their daughter and when the woman objected, he grabbed the girl and threw her to the ground. causing her to die,” police said.
Behror Police Station SHO Prem Prakash said the suspect is on the run and efforts are being made to arrest him and others who took part in the cremation.
