A man detained in connection with illegal betting in Gwalior died in police custody (representative)
Gwalior:
A 30-year-old man, who was detained in connection with illegal betting, died while in custody in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district, after which five police officers have been suspended, a senior official said Tuesday.
A team from Inderganj Police Station had taken two people into custody for questioning on Monday night, suspected of being involved in taking bets.
“Around 9pm, one of the detainees Sonu Bansal vomited after drinking water and was taken to Jayarogya Hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead,” he said, adding that a magisterial investigation into the death has been ordered.
Inderganj Police Station chief Rajendra Parihar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Brajlal and three officers have been suspended and further investigations are underway, the official said.
