Thane:
A couple and their son have been cleared of complicity in suicide in Maharashtra’s Thane district.
Laxmi, the wife of Yakasami Pyarala, 28, took her own life on January 16, 2017, allegedly due to harassment at her matrimonial home in Kalwa, including threats with dire consequences if she gave birth to a girl, according to the prosecutor.
Pyarala, father Mastan Narsinha and mother Mangalama, were charged with complicity in Laxmi’s suicide and other crimes, including criminal harassment.
In her Feb. 1 order, details of which were released Saturday, Sessions Judge Rachna R Tehra acquitted the three, saying the prosecution had failed to prove the charges.
