A 48-year-old prisoner is believed to have committed suicide on Saturday by slitting his throat with a wood carving machine at the central prison in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, police said.
The incident took place in the carpentry department of the prison, where Anil Yadav, who was serving a life sentence for murder, allegedly cut his throat with a wood carving machine, said DVS Nagar, the chief of the MG Road police station.
“After Anil Yadav’s unexpected movement, another inmate Jitendra Verma tried to snatch the machine from his hand. When he failed to do so, he turned off the power to the machine,” the officer said.
But by the time the machine was turned off, it was too late and Anil Yadav died as a result of excessive bleeding from the deep wound in his throat, he said, adding that the prisoner was lying in a pool of blood when police arrived at the scene. Place.
Anil Yadav, a resident of the Azad Nagar area of the city of Indore, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2019 in a murder case in Narsinghpur district of the state, and was transferred to Indore Central Jail the same year, DVS Nagar said.
Police will continue to investigate the death, he added.
