Redmi and Realme have launched 5G tablets in India
Brands like Apple and Samsung have new competition in the segment with products like Xiaomi and Realme launching products.
Shipments of 5G tablets in India grew 170 percent year-on-year (YoY) and Lenovo led the market with a 29 percent market share in full year 2022, a report said on Tuesday.
The total tablet market in India registered a growth of 6 percent year-on-year.
“Driven by a strong consumer desire to future-proof themselves, and with the rollout of 5G networks, 5G tablet shipments continued to gain momentum through 2022,” said Menka Kumari, analyst-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR.
Lenovo, Apple (23 percent market share) and Samsung (22 percent) captured the top three of the tablet market.
According to the report, shipments of tablets with screens larger than 10 inches accounted for 63 percent of total shipments in the Indian market.
Premium tablets (Rs 20,000 and above) grew by 24 percent in 2022.
The Lenovo Tab M8 (HD) (Wi-Fi+4G) and Lenovo Tab M8 (HD) (WiFi) series had a market share of 21 percent and 12 percent, respectively.
Apple iPad shipments posted a 17 percent year-over-year growth in 2022.
The Apple iPad 9 (Wi-Fi) and the Apple iPad Air 2022 (Wi-Fi) had a market share of 45 percent and 17 percent, respectively.
Samsung shipments registered 29 percent year-over-year thanks to the launch of the A8 series, S8 series and S6 series with aggressive features.
“As supply chain restrictions ease and consumers spend more time on the go, tablets will continue to appeal. Demand for business tablets will continue, especially in the healthcare, education and manufacturing sectors,” said Kumari.
