A 16-year-old boy was reported to have died by suicide in his class at a residential school near Hyderabad on Tuesday. The class 11 student, who was from a nearby town, was found hanging in his classroom by his classmates, police said.
He hanged himself with a nylon rope used to dry clothes, she added. No suicide note has been found.
The student, who was preparing for competitive exams, disappeared after study hours ended at 10 p.m. A frantic search of all the rooms of the school in the Ranga Reddy district of Telangana led to the discovery of his body.
The other students took a ride from a stranger to take the student to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, police told NewsMadura. It is not clear why the innkeeper has not arranged a vehicle.
One of the victim’s friends claimed that the pressure to perform better in exams had driven him to suicide. Meanwhile, his relatives staged a protest in front of the college demanding justice.
The school declared an unofficial holiday for two days and sent students home.
Telangana has been rocked by a wave of student suicides in the past week, raising concern among parents and authorities.

According to the latest official figures, as many as 1,64,033 people died by suicide in 2021 in the country.
