Mr. Krishna predicted what kind of jobs technology is likely to displace.

The trend of artificial intelligence (AI) has taken the world by storm. From passing medical and legal exams to giving speeches, AI has evolved to even talk to users and provide solutions to their problems. Talking about AI systems and the explosion of language-based AI ChatGPT, Arvind Krishna, CEO of IBM, has stated that artificial intelligence is advancing at a rapid pace to take over “clerical clerk work”.

In an interview with Financial times, Mr. Krishna predicted what kind of jobs technology is likely to displace. He also said that not only does he believe current AI models could already come for some jobs, but the world should probably welcome it to avoid an impending global labor crisis.

“I do think that administrative white-collar work can be replaced by this [AI]the IBM chairman and CEO told the outlet.

Mr Krishna said areas such as customer service, human resources and functions within finance and healthcare can all be automated – not years from now, but today. “I think [practical AI use] is here and now,” he said, adding, “We have a real world labor shortage and it’s because of a demographic issue the world is facing… the United States is now at 3.4% unemployment, the lowest in 60 years. So maybe we can find tools that replace some of the work, and that’s a good thing this time.”

For health care and finance, it is “regulatory work” which Mr Krishna said no longer needs to be done by people. “A lot of that could be automated with these techniques,” he told the outlet. The IBM chief also stated that “further out” AI will likely be able to manage “things like discovering drugs or trying to complete chemistry”.

In terms of personnel, Mr Krishna said the technology could do 90% of the data processing required for “promoting people, hiring people, moving people” while still leaving the final judgment in human hands left. “There are hundreds of such processes within every enterprise, so I think administrative clerical work can be replaced by them,” he said.

According to Mr. Krishna, taking over customer service by AI could also give customers a “much better answer at maybe about half the current cost. Over time it could get even less than half, but it could get the better of us pretty quickly.” remove half”.
