Former bureaucrat Arun Goel took charge as India’s new election commissioner on Monday.
Arun Goel, a former IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, was appointed as the election commissioner on Saturday. The Minister of Law and Justice on Saturday announced the appointment by President Droupadi Murmu.
“The President is pleased to appoint Arun Goel, IAS (ret.) (PB: 1985) as the Electoral Commissioner on the Election Commission effective on the date he assumes the office,” the statement said.
Arun Goel voluntarily resigned from the position of secretary, Heavy Industries, on Friday.
He will join Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey in the Election Commission.
Sushil Chandra retired as the Chief Election Commissioner in May this year.
