The couple forced the child to watch television all night
Parents discipline their children and teach them important life values in different ways. However, a Chinese couple went to great lengths to teach their child a lesson. To punish their eight-year-old son for watching too much television, the tough love couple forced the boy to watch television all night, South China Morning Mail reported.
According to the outlet, the eight-year-old boy, from Hunan province in central China, was left at home while his parents went away, and was asked to finish his homework and go to bed at 8:30 p.m. But when they came back, they saw that their son was watching TV and had not finished his homework. The boy went to bed when his parents came home.
Enraged at his not listening to them, the boy’s mother dragged him back into the living room and turned on the TV, forcing him to watch it all night. The pair even took turns watching the child so they could force him to stay awake. At first the child was undisturbed and ate snacks, but he soon grew tired and could not sit and watch. He struggled to stay awake and even cried and begged his mother to let him sleep, but to no avail.
CCTV footage of the incident that went viral on social media websites in China shows the boy falling asleep on the couch, only to be pushed awake by his mother or father and forced to watch more television. He wasn’t allowed to sleep until 5 a.m., the report said.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked a fierce debate over parenting, with social media users calling the punishment “too harsh”.
“I had a similar experience. After making our three-year-old son, who is a fan of KFC, eat burgers and chicken for three days, his enthusiasm is now gone,” said one social media user. South China Morning Mail.
However, the mother said that the harsh parenting had a positive effect on her son.
