New Delhi:
Yoga guru Ramdev claimed on Saturday that the number of cancer cases in the country has increased following the COVID-19 pandemic.
He made this remark during an early morning gathering at Miramar beach in Goa, where his Patanjali Yog Samiti has been hosting a three-day yoga camp from Saturday. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was also present with him on stage.
“Cancer has increased enormously. The number of cases of this disease has increased after the COVID-19 pandemic. People have lost their sight and their hearing…,” he said.
“It is a dream of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi that India should become a global wellness center. It is also my dream that Goa should become a wellness center,” he added.
Ramdev said that tourists should visit Goa not only for sightseeing but also for treatment of blood pressure, sugar, thyroid, cancer and other diseases.
Goa should become a tourist center for yog, ayurveda, ‘sanatan’ and spirituality, he said.
“For two months when the number of tourists is less (in the state), we can promote spiritual tourism. People from all over the world will come here,” he said.
He urged the hotel industry to introduce ‘panchkarma’, a five-step detoxification therapy in Ayurveda, into their establishments and to introduce yog to the tourists who stay with them.
“Goa shouldn’t be a den of food and drink. Life is not just about eating, drinking and dying,” he said.
During his speech, Sawant praised the research in yoga and naturopathy conducted by a team led by Ramdev.
He said the state government will provide all the help needed to transform Goa into a ‘yog bhoomi’.
After the event, the yoga guru went to Miramar beach in the morning hours to perform yoga asanas.
He performed the asanas on the specially made platform on the beach.
Later he went for a short run on the beach. CM Sawant, wearing a white shirt and track pants, also accompanied Ramdev during the sprint.
Ramdev then performed puja of a ‘Shivling’ made of sand on the beach.
