The Border Security Force (BSF) seized 10kg of heroin, worth crores in rupees, near the international border in the Akhnoor sector in Jammu on Monday, a senior official said.
The Inspector General of BSF, Jammu Border, NS Jamwal said the troops are conducting operations based on regular tips and the seizure was the result of such efforts.
“Troops were on the watch around the clock and this seizure is the result of their efforts,” he said.
The shipment was found hidden in “Sarkanda” bushes near the zero line by a search group, BSF Deputy Inspector General SPS Sandhu said.

Mr Sandhu, who is also a Public Relations Officer for the BSF Jammu border, said the recovery took place around 1pm when a BSF party found a suspicious black backpack hidden in the wild grass.
“The bag was opened and 10 packs of heroin, each weighing one kilogram, were found,” said the officer, calling the recovery a great success and the result of the relentless efforts of robust border control.
He said the director-general of the BSF has praised the efforts of the troops.
