The Chief Electoral Officer has made announcements to Congress and the BJP in Tripura regarding the appeal to vote following the implementation of the model code of conduct.
Polls were conducted yesterday for the 60 assembly seats in Tripura, with nearly 80 percent of voters casting their vote. The final turnout figures will be known on Friday, the election commission has announced.
The EC also said Thursday’s vote remained “largely non-violent”.
The polls in Meghalaya and Nagaland will take place on February 27. The vote count in all three states will take place on March 2.

Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday lashed out at the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), saying Conrad Sangma’s government has cut off benefits from central schemes for the state’s people. Speaking at a public meeting in Dalu, Mr. Shah said, “Assam uses all the facilities of the central government. But these facilities are not only for Assam but also for Meghalaya. The chief minister of Meghalaya is not letting people use the facilities here .”
The Congress in Meghalaya claimed that the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) has failed to protect women and children, “while the state is doing poorly on infant and maternal mortality rates”.
AICC media coordinator Bobbeeta Sharma said at a press briefing in the state with polls on Thursday that the NPP had pledged in its 2018 election manifesto to empower women in Meghalaya, but “data tell us a different story.”
Tripura registers a turnout of almost 88 percent on election day
Nearly 88 percent of the vote was registered in the one-day Assembly elections in Tripura, which were “largely peaceful”, a senior EC official said on Friday.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal urged the people of Meghalaya to vote for peace, development and social security.
Mr Sonowal said that under Modi’s leadership, more than 80 crore people in the country are receiving free rations every month.
Elections in Nagaland: Top BJP leaders campaign today
Top BJP leaders, including union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Sarbananda Sonowal, and BJP general secretary BL Santhosh will campaign today for the February 27 elections in Nagaland.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that before the elections in Meghalaya, the BJP broke its alliance with the NPP so that it can contest all 60 parliament seats and emerge stronger.
At an election rally in North Tura constituency, he appealed to the people to vote for the BJP, pledging to end corruption in the state.
Tripura polls: almost 80% turnout recorded
Nearly 80 percent of voters exercised their right to vote yesterday as elections were held in Tripura for 60 assembly seats. The Election Commission is expected to release the final figures today.
