Sunny Opotech already produces camera modules for Android phone OEMs at its Tirupati facility in collaboration with Celkon.
Sunny Opotech will start producing exclusively for Apple in 2024, after the first product tests in China.
Sunny Opotech, a subsidiary of China-based Sunny Optical Technology, has reached an agreement with Apple to build a $300 million facility in India.
According to a report by Businessline, Welly Liu, President of Sunny Opotech India, the project will be implemented in phases until 2026, with the location of the facility still to be determined, but a decision will be made in the near future. “It will work with mobile phones as well as Apple laptops and computers.”
Supply Opotech’s deal with Apple is expected to boost revenue from India to $3-4 billion, and it should be noted that the company is already producing camera modules for Android phone OEMs at its Tirupati facility in partnership with Celkon (Seven Hills ).
Welly Liu told Businessline that camera modules made for Apple are of “high value,” and that the forthcoming partnership, with new investment at its disposal, will contribute to “the overall strategy to grow the revenue of the camera module (BU) business unit. increase to $10 billion by 2026 from the current $3.5 billion.”
