India’s Covid chart showed improvement today, with the country registering 42,618 cases, down 6% from yesterday. About 330 deaths were recorded during the period, according to the Ministry of Health. Active cases make up 1.23% of the total number of cases.

Kerala continued to record a record number of infections and the state reported 29,322 new cases and 131 deaths. The state has reported a test positivity rate of 17.91 percent.
Concerned by the “alarming” situation in Kerala, the Supreme Court on Friday suspended a decision by the state government to hold Class 11 exams offline. The court ordered the exams to be interrupted for a week, saying: “Children of a young age cannot be exposed to the risk (of contracting the virus)”.
Maharashtra contributed 4,313 cases and 92 fatalities to India’s daily number. There are now 50,466 active cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra and the state recovery rate stands at 97.04 percent while the death rate is 2.12 percent.
Delhi’s COVID-19 caseload reached 14,37,874 with the national capital reporting 35 new infections in the past 24 hours. For the third consecutive day, no new deaths have been reported in the city, according to data shared by the city’s health department. This is also the 22nd time since the start of the second wave of the pandemic that the national capital has seen no deaths in one day. The second wave swept through Delhi in April-May.
However, hospitals in the national capital are reporting an increase in the number of patients reporting mucormycosis recurrence after being cured. Although there is no specific age group in which these cases are reported, recurrence of the fungal infection has mostly been reported in diabetics.
Active cases make up 1.23% of the total number of cases, while the national recovery rate from COVID-19 is 97.43 percent, according to the Ministry of Health. The daily positivity rate now stands at 2.50 percent.
Cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed the 67 crore mark. More than 51.88 lakh doses of vaccine were administered until 7pm on Friday. India has been conducting the largest vaccination campaign against COVID-19 since January 16 this year.
The 84-day duration between the 1st and 2nd dose of Covishield vaccine provides the best protection against COVID-19, the Center told Kerala High Court on Friday. “India’s national COVID vaccination program is based on scientific and epidemiological evidence, World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and global best practices,” it said.
The European Union and UK-based drug giant AstraZeneca have reached a settlement in a dispute over a shortage of supplies of coronavirus vaccines. The deal will see the company deliver the rest of the 300 million doses it has promised under contracts with the EU by the end of March 2022, ending a battle in Belgian courts.
According to the AFP news agency, the coronavirus has killed at least 4,529,715 people since the outbreak in China in December 2019. The US is the worst affected country with 642,081 deaths, followed by Brazil with 581,150, India with 439,529, Mexico 260,503 and Peru 198,329.
